What is PIER?

PIER is the strategic partnership between DESY and Universität Hamburg. The Acronym PIER stands for Partnership for Innovation, Education and Research. PIER focuses on the research fields Particle and Astroparticle Physics, Nanosciences, Photon Science and Infection and Structural Biology. Additional interdisciplinary areas include Theoretical Physics and Accelerator Research.

Under the umbrella of PIER, DESY and Universität Hamburg jointly provide funding for cross-institutional research projects, promote high-quality education of junior scientists, and foster an innovation-friendly culture on the Hamburg Bahrenfeld science campus.

The Blog and Podcast Project Science Chatter displays the products of early career scientists (PhD students and Postdocs) who participated in Science Communication Projects organized by the PIER Education Platform (PEP). For more information you can visit the PIER homepage and/or get in touch with our team member Theresa.
